Pink

It has certainly been a long time since I have posted! Lots of new and exciting things are going on in my life!

7 weeks ago Tanner and I decided on a breed of dog and started searching. 6 weeks ago we were in Kingwood and his mom started helping us with our dog search. She gave us the names and numbers and websites of a bunch of different places (every place we had already looked, but still very helpful). Tanner finally sat down and found a breeder in Glaveston, called to ask if they had any females and she said "yes, but she's already spoken for." =( After talking for awhile, she finally came out saying that she had been spoken for for awhile but the man had never come to pick her up yet and if he didn't come by Sunday we could have her. Tanner called Sunday and she said "she's all yours" and we had about an hour to go get her. We kicked our friend out (he understands!), ran to the ATM to get cash to pay for her, and on our way we went! After we got her (Lucky was her original name) we went to Petco to buy EVERYTHING, as we had nothing!

We took Lucky Pinkerton (her registered name as she full-bred) aka Pink to the vet at 12 weeks and found out (as we already assumed) she was WAY underweight and very poorly taken care of at the breeders. She had a massive yeast infection in her ears, roundworms and hookworms, and an infection on her belly, as well as awful dandruf. Our poor baby was put on 3 different meds to get her better.

We went to the vet yesterday and found out all the original stuff was gone, minus the infection on her belly and her dandruff. She's on 2 more meds for her belly, as well as a medicated sampoo for her dandruff. We may have bought her from the "Galveston Ghetto" as our vet put it, but we love her just the same and look at this as we were saving her from worse infections.

Pink already sits at the door when she has to go potty. She sits before we feed her and lets us mess with her while she eats (something ALL dogs should let you do. This helps so they won't attack kids who want to play while they're eating). She also slept ALL night last night, only waking up for Tanner to feed her and take her out at 5:30 this morning. She went back to sleep and I had to wake her up at 8:30 when I finally rolled out of bed. She is such a sweet girl and LOVES to cuddle and give kisses. We are so blessed to have our little bundle of joy!

We're heading to Kingwood tonight to start Christmas with Tanner's side of the family. I'm looking forward to getting to spend time with his family! We're going out to dinner tonight where we will have to give them their gifts since we will be with my family when his 2 brothers and their wives and kids will be doing Christmas with his family.

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

1. If you could be a fly on any wall, which would you choose?
This is tough! I think I would want to be like any fly and just fly from place to place. I can't pick just one wall to stay on!

2. Do you budget your Christmas shopping or just get it done without budgeting?
Tanner and I always say we're going to only spend so much on each other, but that never happens...and with the families we try to keep it even.

3. What is the craziest fad diet you have ever done?
Haha, I'm an AWFUL person to talk to about dieting. I love food way too much to diet.

4. Is there a TV show that you have seen every episode/season of?
Too many! One Tree Hill, Laguna Beach, The Hills, and pretty much any reality show on E!

5. What one song always pulls at your heart?
Seasons of Love from RENT. I could listen to it every day, and I would tear up every day.

I can't believe it's already Halloween! Last time I posted it was the end of the first WEEK of school...the 2nd 6 weeks is almost over already! 3 weeks until Thanksgiving and then 3 weeks after that until Christmas break...CRAZY! Tanner and I finally painted out bedroom this past week. On Saturday both sets of parents came to visit and we went to Ballunar fest at NASA. Sadly, I was sick so we left before getting to see the balloons. Thankfully the mend were ready to leave anyway! ;)
Tanner and I have been talking more and more about getting a dog! :) We have ventured away from the lab idea. We both love Sprinkles, Sam and Elissa's pom, but we want something a little bigger...at least for now! I still want my yorkie, but my newest kick is a boxer. I've been doing my research on family pets (not only for when we have our own family, but also for all of our friends that come visit that already have kids!) and boxers seem to be pretty high on the list of great family dogs. Very kid friendly, but also seem protective. We'll see.

Sam and Elissa got married last weekend! Yay! The wedding was beautiful and it was great to get to see Tanner's family again and actually spend time with them at this wedding!

One week down...30-something to go!

1. How many pets do you have? None right now =( We are hoping to get a dog in the somewhat near future, once we figure out exactly what we want and when I am off to train her.

2. If you could switch places with anyone in the world for one day, who would it be? TOUGH! Haha, probably a Kardashian to see if their "normal" life is really that crazy and drama-filled!

3. What is your favorite money saving tip? I have a few, but I guess my biggest one right now is that I have my account automatically draft so much money each paycheck into a separate account so I don't touch it!

4. What do you want your kids to be when they grow up? Hmm, well we don't have kids yet, but I'm going to go with the cheesy "Happy" answer. My dad ALWAYS wanted me to be a Dr. and for a while I wanted to also, but I def felt like when I chose to become a teacher I got some backlash about how I wouldn't make as much or be as successful. But I think now that he sees how happy I am with my life he's realized I'm much better off as a teacher than a Dr.

5. What is your favorite quote? At our convocation before school started, we had a man come speak to us and he used this quote. It fits not only with the teacher in me, but I can use it in my everyday life. "Good enough isn't good enough if you can do better. Better isn't good enough if you can do best."

This weekend is going to be pretty relaxing for the most part. Tanner and I are staying in (at least as of now! ha...we'll see in an hour!) tonight and picking our wedding photos for our photo book and the ones we want to get to hang on the wall! Tomorrow he has a Fantasy Football draft in the morning so I'm going to sleep in (yay!) and probably grade some papers (boo!). Saturday night is my birthday dinner. Sunday Tanner is leaving me for a week to go work in Denmark!! =( I'm excited for him but it's going to be hard having him gone for a whole week!!! Sunday evening I'm going to watch his team play softball (yes I'm THAT dedicated...NOT!) and babysit one of the player's kid. At least it will give me something to do and keep me in my usual routine.

SHOOOOOOL

School starts tomorrow. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm more relaxed about my new partner teacher, but I know she's no Amy! I'm def going to miss working with Amy! The parents that came to our Meet the Teacher didn't seem too thrilled about how far their kids had to walk outside to get to our room. Not that it's FAR, but it'd def a good walk. 158 days to go! Haha, one of our teachers is retiring at the end of the year, and she's been keeping us ALL updated on how many days she has left. I'm not sure if this is a good thing, or if it's just going to make the year drag on!

Tanner comes home tonight and I couldn't be more excited!! I am SO ready for him to be home and he's already called to say his flight is delayed 2 hours, ugh!

Married life?

1. Do you have any nicknames and if so how did it come about?
I have MANY nicknames! My dad gave me the nickname Leonard when I was born, and my friends shortened it to Lenny when I was about 12. People also call me Kare Bear since we grew up on Care Bears and my name is Karen. Those are the 2 I have had the longest.

2. What is your birth order amongst your siblings?
I am youngest of 2. My sister is 4 years older so we were only at the same school together in Elementary school and I think she LOVED it being that way! =0)

3. In a movie of your life, who would play your significant other?
Someone goofy! Haha, I don't know who hubby looks like, but I can think of a few guys I wouldn't mind playing him! ;)

4. What is currently your favorite song?
Hmm, I don't know. I think pretty much EVERY song on the radio is overplayed, and I'm awful at putting in CDs or my Ipod, so I tend to hear the same things over and over again. I haven't gotten sick of Shinedown's The Crow and the Butterfly yet, so I'll say that one.

5. Are you saving your money for anything right now? Big or small purchase?
I am saving money to get my finances back in check! I was in an accident the end of January and totaled my car so I bought a car (paid cash); bought a house in May; got married in July and went to Hawaii on our honeymoon. Tanner's already talking about our anniversary trip, so I guess I could say I'm saving for that! I am also starting a savings account for our future (and very nonexistent!) kid(s). I know I'm thinking ahead, but with the way the economy is and how expensive colleges are, not to mention just the cost of having a baby, I'm getting prepared.

Tanner's in Tahoe right now for his brother's bachelor party and I am VERY jealous! They went on a hike today and he sent me a picture and it's GORGEOUS there! He also spent most (ALL) of last night gambling, but walked out up $350 so that's exciting. I do miss him a lot though. He'll be home 1 week and then is leaving me again for a week, only when he leaves again he'll be leaving the country! Eeek! We've never spent so much time apart.

Tomorrow is our back to school day/Meet the Teacher. I am looking forward to meeting my students, but I do not feel prepared for this year! Thankfully I am not teaching Social Studies like I originally thought (mistake on P's part), but being outside has not gotten better. I don't MIND being out there, but when it rains (like today) there is no going inside without getting wet! The poor kids! We got new books for Reading and the lessons are divided by day in the T.E. which is pretty awesome!

OK, enough rambling! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Summer blues

Today is my last real day of summer before training starts next week! I am excited to still be teaching 2nd grade, but that seems to be pretty much the only thing that is the same about this new school year. I have a new partner teacher (I teach ELA, she teaches Math and Science), a new last name (! yay!), a new classroom (outside no less), and apparently I am now also teaching Social Studies! Our schedule will also be different this year, but we have not been officially told EXACTLY what is changing. Right now it is all just rumor with little bits of fact thrown in from the new boss. Oh yeah, that's another change also! Our principal was transferred to another elem school, so our AP is now our P.

Tuesday was mine and Tanners one month (already!) so we went to Ichiban and ate sushi and snow crab! yum! Hopefully we celebrate every month! ha!

The house is SLOWLY coming along. We put the wedding on hold to buy the house, then we put the house on hold to finish the wedding planning, get married, and go on our honeymoon. Now that we are back and thank you cards are finished, we are starting to buy things for the house. We went to IKEA last weekend and bought a desk for the study. Now we are searching for the perfect supply cabinet for the study, as well as a "craft" desk for all my scrapbooking materials. We are also looking for a linen closet for our bathroom, and a comforter for the "boy" room.

My birthday is coming up and Tanner and I have been discussing getting a dog. I think we have both decided that our original plan of getting a lab is no longer the best choice. We also decided getting a dog as I am starting school (STRESS!!) and he is going out of town for almost 2 weeks is also not good timing. So we are going to really decide what kind of dog we want and wait until later this year (or next summer) to get one. We both still want a bigger dog, 35+ pounds. We both LOVE Golden's, but they are not good watch dogs, which I want a dog that will bark and sound at least somewhat vicious when I am home alone.

Introducing Mrs. Moore!

Well, I changed my name today! I got to the DPS an hour early and was the first person in line. By the time it opened there was a VERY long line and by the time I filled out the paperwork I was probably the 10th in line, but everything went pretty quickly! After the DPS, I went to the social security office. I was there for only 45 minutes but it seemed like I was there longer than I was at the DPS! Thankfully those were the 2 places everyone complained about when changing a name and they're done with! Tomorrow my mom is coming to visit and we're going to change my name on the bank stuff...fun!

At my bridal shower someone gave us a crockpot...a NICE crockpot. We've had at least 4 before this, but our food always seemed to burn or not cook evenly so we were SO excited to get this one. I've used it a few times and tonight I'm making a chicken casserole in it..it was super easy and smells good so far! Hopefully it will taste ok!

Suzanne and Nick

Yesterday one of my childhood friends got married! Suzanne and I have been friends for....21 years...and we got married 3 weeks apart! They are also going to hawaii on their honeymoon. I can't wait to hear about their adventures!

My mom (and dad) fell in love with Suzanne's cousin's daughter. They were getting "practice" on being grandparents in the future. =) And she loved them just as much. She wanted to sit with my mom and dance with both of them. TOO cute! This morning she was getting off the elevator as we were getting on and she got a HUGE smile on her face when she saw my mom and kept waving at her. When they got to the restaurant she ran to my parents and wouldn't leave their sides! Haha, I love it and can't wait to give them their own grandchildren one day!

Tanner did not come with me to the wedding bc he was in Kingwood at his brother and future sis-in-law's couples shower. He said it was tons of fun and I'm sad I missed it! Thankfully nobody is getting married during the other wedding festivities so there will be no more conflicts! =)

Back in business! =)

Tanner and I are back from our honeymoon and I am officially (if not legally) Mrs. Moore!! I can't wait to legally change my name (and everything else I have to change after that!)!

Hawaii was amazing! We couldn't have asked for a better trip! The weather was amazing, there was never a shortage of things to do, and best of all was the amazing company! ;)

We were in Oahu for 5 nights. We hiked over a mile every day, including 2 hikes to go see the famous Banyan tree...which we thought was only famous from LOST, but turns out they were in the middle of building a set for a scene in Pirates 4. We think they were going to film the day after we left, seeing as they were already bringing in the trailers the day we left, but still had not finished cleaning up the mess they made building the set. We went to Pearl Harbor...such a humbling trip. There were def moments I caught myself tearing up just thinking about everything that happened and how terrible it was. We hiked Diamond Head...Tanner made it all the way to the top. I, unfortunately, did not climb the last st of stairs to the top. We went snorkeling at Haunama Bay. There were a lot of different types of fish, but def not the AMAZING experience we were expecting. Tanner went golfing one day while I drove the cart and took tons of pictures.

My favorite part of Oahu was swimming with the dolphins. We swam with a 1/4 False Killer Whale! I was a little scared at first, just being in the water with such big animals, but my the end I didn't want to leave! Our trainer had the dolphin do tons of tricks, including a "Jaws" impression which was hilarious.

We also went to the big island, Kona side, for 4 nights. This was (somewhat) the more relaxing of the trips. While we were in Oahu, we never had a resort day where we just hung out by the pool all day. We didn't do that in Kona, either, but we did have 2 days where we relaxed by the pool for at least part of the day. We went to the Kona Brewery and Pub and went on a tour of the brewery since Tanner really wanted to go. I am NOT a beer drinker, but went along since it was our honeymoon and what else would I do? Well, turns out Kona makes some pretty good beer! My favorite was a wheat beer that also had passion fruit in it. There was also a beer with coffee in it that I thought would be disgusting but I ended up enjoying it...and all the other beers I tasted! We ordered pizza for dinner. We got to "make" our own, so we chose alfredo sauce with pepperoni and pineapple (the pineapple in Hawaii was AMAZINGLY fresh!). We loved the food so much that we ended up going back for dinner on our last night there! We also took a 2.5 hour drive to the Volcano National Park so we could see an active volcano. We toured the park and then ventured another 1.5 hours out of our way to go see the lava flow. We weren't expecting to see much until the sun went down, but while we were there a patch opened up and huge ammounts of lava started flowing...def an experience I don't think I'll ever forget. Tanner just happened to have the video camera out and ended up catching the whole thing on film! Our last big hurrah in Kona was going parasailing. I have been probably 5 times now, but Tanner had never been and it was def a great experience! While we were in the air we saw a group of Spinner Dolphins playing (and jumping and spinning) below us! We couldn't take our eyes off them! When the other group went up our driver went back over to the area we first saw them at, but they were gone by this point. Thankfully, another group (maybe the same?) swam by the hotel later while we were at the pool so we got to watch them from a much closer view.

All in all we had an amazing time on our honeymoon. Great food, great weather (rarely rained...mainly just in the mornings or when we were in the rainforest), and of course great company.

Sorry this is so long! Hopefully I will be updating more often and with more interesting news! ;)

Bud

I found out last night that my Uncle Bud, my favorite uncle, will not be able to come to the wedding. He owns his own company and they are in the middle of a HUGE deal. I understand but it just really sucks. I've looked at him as my 2nd dad for as long as I can remember.

Hopefully, though, we will have some time to go visit after the wedding and get to spend some time with him...and the rest of the family that won't be able to come. Hopefully we will find time before we go back to school (ha, yeah right!) so we can go out on the boat! ;) More than likely, however, we will be going in December or next Summer so Tanner can save up more hours and vacation.

The wedding is in 23 days and my cousin is coming in 16 to help with all of the last minute details! My mom decided to help throw (AKA be in charge of) a bridal shower for one of my friends that is getting married 3 weeks after Tanner and me on the 26th (2 weeks before the wedding). She is a brave woman but is doing an amazing job getting everything together!

Update and ABC's!

Sorry it has yet again been such a long time since I posted! Life has officially become SWAMPED! The wedding is in 46 days and we are getting to the point where we ca do all the little things...and all the things that haven't been done yet. The priest at the church here has not been getting back to us, so we're trying to get all our paperwork sent back to St. Martha's where we're getting married so we can finish with the priest there. But nobody is returning phone calls or emails right now.

The house is still great, but we are def starting to find all the little things that are wrong with it. We got our bedroom set and we are FINALLY supposed to be getting our fridge tomorrow! Who knew getting a fridge would be so exciting?

School is over in 4.5 days. 7 if you count the time without kids, but I'm not! I still can't believe it's almost summer! It seems like just yesterday I was meeting my new kids and trying to learn names...

HOUSE!

Thank God we didn't buy a "fixer-upper!" We have already spent over $200 on little things for the house. We haven't even started buying paint or the "big" things yet. Nobody told me buying a house would be so expensive!!

Friday is closing and I couldn't be more excited! We do our finaly walk-through at 1 and close at 2! Tanner has already started planning what we'll be bringing first...while I'm trying to organize 2 places merging at one time with the least ammount of drama and frustration. It's not working in my head which means it's going to be even worse in real life.

It still hasn't hit me that in 2 months I will be married! I had my first wedding gown fitting on Friday. It took all I had to make myself get out of bed after going home sick from work to go to the fitting. once I got there and had my dress on, however, I remembered the joy I had and that FEELING I had the first time I put the dress on and never wanted to take it off. I just stood there and smiled while she put pins everywhere.

We still have a few things left before the big day. We picked our readings but haven't fully decided on everyone who will be reading. oops! We also have our tastings (both cake and food) next Saturday, so thats 2 things to cross off the list. We're making baskets for our out of state guests, so we need to finalize and start buying everything or the baskets in June (don't want the food to go bad!)

School is over in 22 days. This year surprisingly flew by pretty quick. While I had my slow days/weeks, I am amazed that it is already May! My kids are ready for summer as well, but I don't think it has fully hit them either. They keep asking me why we're reviewing our DOG (Daily Oral Grammar ~ Language) already when I said we would be reviewing the last 6 weeks of school.

Where to begin...

Wow! A lot has changed since the last time I had a chance to actually sit down for 5 minutes and post...not that I should be posting now, but that's ok! =)

Well, we bought a house! We close May 7 and will hopefully be moving in that weekend! On May 8 we do our cake AND food tastings so we'll be driving all over Houston to get everything done...busy, busy!

This Friday is our work Christmas (I know...in April!) party. I can't believe it's almost Summer! The kids def know it's almost summer and have started forgetting all the rules already! This week we're going to the zoo for our field trip while 3-5 take the TAKS test...too bad we can't take 2 field trips and be gone both days for them! Tuesday will be a VERY quiet day in my room since my walls connect with a 3rd grade classroom. Ugh!!

Some of our friends (and my future bro and sis in law!) threw us an amazing Couples Shower! Although I just realized we didn't play the game..haha! What happened Elissa??? I, unfortunately, started to feel super sick and we went home early. Of course in pure Tanner fashion he was asleep on the couch within an hour of getting home. We had tons of fun and got tons of great things to put in our new house (yay!) and got to see a lot of people we haven't seen in a really long time. I felt really rude not being social with everyone, but oh well...I didn't feel good.

Well, my weight has pretty much stayed the same the last 3 weeks...I've lost 2lbs...but I fit into some shorts I haven't been able to wear in almost 2 years and never had the heart to get rid of "just in case."

Tanner and I are trying to get all our ducks in a row and prioritize what we need/want first when we move in. Thankfully we're in agreement on everything so we haven't had to have a stupid fight about whether we need a TV or a couch more (ha!). He's excited he gets to play golf today and I'm sad I'm stuck in the house! I have the air off and the windows open and I'm about to go outside to write thank you notes and enjoy this amazing day!

Hopefully I'll get better about finding a few minutes a day to sit back and write more as we go through all these changes in our life. As Jill puts it, we're doing all of our life changes in one year..some within 2 months of the other (Close May 7, get married July 10!)...the next step is to get a dog (October...after Heidi has her puppies..yay for my best friend having a choc lab that they got for breeding!!) and have a baby!

"I thought we were having a sub today"

Ever since Tanner and I got engaged, my students have been incredibly curious about the whole situation. Since most of their parents are divorced (if they were even married in the first place), or they are being raised by a grandparent/aunt and uncle, they've been asking tons of questions...mainly about when I'm having my baby. I'm not pregnant. They don't understand that not all people get married because they're pregnant.

Well, one of my kids just found out her mom is pregnant and is very wrapped up in the idea of having a little brother or sister. Yesterday she asked me if my fiance and I are going to have a baby after we get married. When I answered that we eventually want to have kids, another one of my students asked who my sub would be. I, obviously, said I wasn't sure since I didn't even know when I was going to have a baby and who would still be subbing at that point. The conversation pretty much died after that and we got back to our real work.

Today one of my little boys looked at me and said "I thought we were going to have a sub today." I looked at him like he had two heads (a look I get from them most of the time) and asked, "who said I was going to be gone today?" He proceeded to tell me "you. You said you were having a baby!" WHAT? I had NO words and thankfully one of the girls answered him for me by saying "she's not pregnant! She was just saying her and her husband WANT a baby!" oh joy...at least they're entertaining! =)

...I had to take my personal microwave and fridge home yesterday. As per the school district, if we want a raise, we have to get rid of our personal microwaves, refrigerators, and fans...so I took mine home yesterday. And I missed it today! I also noticed how empty my storage closet looked without them in there, so I've decided to reorganize and CLEAN the closet out! My cousin, Jenn, is not going to be too happy when she comes to stay with me for a week in June. She'll be put to work helping me clean/organize the closet AND help put the house together if we're not totally moved in by then (which I doubt we will be!).

Tanner and I are going out with our realtor again tomorrow. We've found 2 houses we LOVE, and a few we like if things fall through. I've started collecting boxes so when the time comes we'll have some ready.

We also only have 3 months until the wedding. Thankfully, MOST of the big things are done. We still have a lot to do (food tasting, cake tasting and picking a design, baskets for out of town guests, booking the honeymoon - I know, I know - marriage license, etc) but I know we'll get it done and be fine.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Since I have 2 classes and I am the Language Teacher, I get to take BOTH of my classes to the library in Thursdays; and to the computer lab. Also, we're having our Easter Egg Hunt tomorrow. SO, basically, I will be out of my room doing fun things most of the day. =) I love being a teacher!

Back to blogging

So I haven't blogged since I was in High School, so this should be interesting.

Tanner and I have been engaged since October 23, 2009 and we're getting married July 10, 2010. To say I'm stressed is an understatement. All of our "big" stuff is done, but the little things, mainly contacting the right people, is overwhelming. With our busy schedules, and their busy schedules, finding a mutual time for appointments is ridiculous! Thankfully it will all be over in a few months and I will be married to the man of my dreams and it will all have been worth it! =)

Tanner proposed at one of my favorite places in the world, St. Simon's Island, GA, on top of a lighthouse. I had absolutely NO idea and had just spent the night before telling my cousin, Jenn, how we were never going to get married. Little did I know she was in on the whole thing. When we FINALLY got to the top of the lighthouse and walked around for a few minutes Tanner pulled me over so we were looking out over the ocean. He said some really sweet things and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I, of course, said yes and immediately the craziness began!

My parents have been a huge help in all of this; helping us with a lot of the planning. My mom has also been my voice of reason when I call during a "bridezilla" moment. Thankfully it's never been towards her! =)

We are also house-hunting during our wedding planning. We've been out by ourselves two times and we've gone with a Realtor once. We found one we like and one we love, but we are going out again to look some more tomorrow. Our goal is to find a house in the next 2 weeks so we can put a bid on the house and hopefully close and start moving in by the beginning of June. I know, wishful thinking, but it's our goal.

Sorry if these are random and not grammatically correct. This will probably mainly be used as my outlet of stress to vent.
